Foreign Office to India Office.

Foreign Office, October 11, 1912. WITH reference to the letter from this department of the 30th ultimo on the subject of the destruction of opium by the authorities of the province of Anhui, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith, to be laid before the Secretary of State for India, a copy of a telegram from His Majesty's Minister at Peking,* reporting the result of the enquiry into the incident made by His Majesty's consul- general at Shanghai.

Sir E. Grey proposes, with the Marquess of Crewe's concurrence, to approve the further course of action in the matter recommended by Sir J. Jordan.
